Coachella Valley Hiking: Some of the Best in the World
The Coachella Valley is known for world-class hiking. The West Valley's grueling 22-mile Cactus to Clouds trek, for example, draws hikers from around the world to Palm Springs. The hike, which begins near the Palm Springs Art Museum, takes hikers to the peak of Mount San Jacinto. While the Cactus to Clouds trek is only for experienced hikers, the Coachella Valley has something for everyone. Local trails offer both beginning and experienced hikers outdoor exercise and some amazing views. Along the way hikers may see wildlife, find an oasis or rest near waterfalls.
Sunnylands a modernist estate. In the mid-1960s, Walter and Leonore Annenberg hired interior designer William Haines and Los Angeles-based architect A. Quincy Jones (1913-1979) to create a midcentury modern residence in Rancho Mirage. Many key figures of the 20th century enjoyed Sunnylands as guests of the Annenbergs. The list includes seven U.S. presidents, the British royal family, and Hollywood icons like Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Stewart, Ginger Rogers, and many others.
The Palm Springs Area includes the Coachella Valley cities of Cathedral City, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Palm Desert, and Rancho Mirage. It is about an hour drive to Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree National Park and the Salton Sea.
